Who we are
HomeTaxDrop (“HomeTaxDrop,” “we,” “us”) operates hometaxdrop.com, a service that helps Colorado homeowners review their property tax assessments and pursue appeals. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions? Email hello@hometaxdrop.com.
Information we collect
- Information you give us: your name, email address, property address, mailing address, ownership and residency confirmations, property condition notes, and any photos or documents you upload as appeal evidence.
- Account information: when you create an account, our authentication provider (Clerk) processes your email and sign-in credentials on our behalf.
- Public property records: when you search an address or submit an appeal request, we retrieve publicly available assessor and treasurer records for that property (valuations, tax amounts, property characteristics) from county government sources.
- Usage analytics: we use Plausible Analytics (privacy-friendly and cookie-free) and Google Analytics to understand how the site is used and to measure advertising. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects usage data as described in Google's privacy policy; you can opt out via standard browser controls or Google's opt-out tools.
- Technical basics: like most websites, our hosting provider processes IP addresses and request logs to serve and secure the site.
How we use it
- To estimate your potential tax savings and show you your property's assessment and tax history.
- To prepare, document, and file a property tax appeal on your behalf when you ask us to.
- To communicate with you about your appeal's status and next steps.
- To operate, secure, and improve the service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising.
Who we share it with
- County offices: filing an appeal requires submitting your name, property details, and supporting evidence to the relevant county assessor or board of equalization.
- Service providers that run our infrastructure: Vercel (hosting and file storage), Neon (database), Clerk (authentication), Google (address autocomplete), and Plausible (analytics). Each processes data only to provide their service to us.
- Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
Cookies
We use functional cookies — authentication session cookies (via Clerk) and a cookie that links your browser to the appeal you started so your dashboard can show its progress — plus Google Analytics cookies for usage measurement and ad attribution. Plausible, our other analytics tool, is cookie-free. We do not sell data collected through cookies.
Data retention & deletion
We keep appeal records while your appeal is active and for as long as needed for legitimate business and legal purposes afterward. You can request a copy of your data or ask us to delete it any time by emailing hello@hometaxdrop.com. Colorado residents have rights under the Colorado Privacy Act, including access, correction, deletion, and opting out of targeted advertising (which we don't do in the first place).
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest with our providers. Access to lead information is restricted to people working on your appeal.
Children
Our service is for homeowners and isn't directed at children under 13; we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we materially change this policy we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, notify account holders by email. See also our Terms of Service.
